Jonathan Martin obtained his J.D. at Florida State University College of Law in 2015, graduating magna cum laude. He served as a member of the FSU Moot Court team and Law Review. As an FSU Moot Court member, Jonathan was awarded best oralist in a competition before the Florida Supreme Court. He also was awarded first place in a national moot court competition. Jonathan continues to be actively involved with the FSU Moot Court team as a coach, where he has now twice coached his team to first place in a national competition held in Washington, D.C.
Before joining The Mills Firm in 2018, Jonathan was associate general counsel at the Florida Department of Financial Services for almost three years. There, Jonathan represented the Department in all aspects of the cases he was involved in, including appeals. Jonathan successfully represented the Department in all of his appeals, including one case where he presented oral argument before the First District Court of Appeal, catching the firm’s eye for talent.
Jonathan has had primary responsibility for drafting dozens of briefs for The Mills Firm. As he has honed his writing skills, Jonathan continues to be an elite talent in the appellate courtroom. He has applied those skills in a trial support capacity handling high stakes hearing and second-chair services during jury trials.
In 2024, Jonathan earned a position as shareholder at The Mills Firm after achieving board certification in appellate practice, establishing himself as a highly respected appellate specialist.
